Meet the President

Peter Mathews CMGPeter Mathews CMG is President of Black Country Chamber of Commerce. He is also founder and Director of Black Country Metals Ltd of Lye.

Peter is truly an International businessman in his own right, trading metals from as far afield as Australia and China to Brazil and Canada, and from South Africa to Russia.

Peter is the past Chairman of the World Recycling Convention, based in Brussels, setting the agenda for sustaining the world's resources, as well as being a past Member of the International Reinforcing Bar Association, based in Istanbul.

Peter also advises the European Commission on Multiculturalism and Language. Following a period as a main Board Member of UK Trade and Investment, he now chairs Advanced Engineering for the organisation, encompassing Aerospace and Automotive as well as leading-edge technology.

Closer to home, Peter is the President of the Midlands World Trade Forum and President of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, where he has rung the many changes to adapt to today's global market to the advantage of Black Country businesses.

One of his real successes for the Black Country in 2008 was enabling the Black Country to be finally recognised as a geographical area by Ordnance Survey, putting official recognition of the Black Country in place for the first time in its history.
