Historic Change at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce

Members of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce have unanimously voted for the greatest constitutional change since 2001. In response to the vote, Black Country Chamber President, Ninder Johal said: "In 2001 our predecessors took the brave step in merging four distinctive Chambers of Commerce into a single Black Country Chamber of Commerce. Thirteen years later we have taken our first strides towards assuring our impact at local, regional and national levels. Faced with increasing collaboration across local authority boundaries and the globalisation of our member's markets, moving to a structure that represents our members on common priorities rather than on a geographical basis is a significant step forward."

Margaret Corneby, Chief Executive of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, said: "Our aim is to double the size of the Black Country economy over the next ten years. Having a region-wide structure which will form special groups with specific priorities puts members in the driving seat of our strategy and makes sure we use their skills to maximise impact on behalf of all businesses in the region."

Ninder Johal concluded by saying: "I have spent much of my time consulting with our members, other business groups and public sector partners to better understand how we are perceived and how we can better improve our impact. I think that by strengthening what unifies us, focusing on what our members think are priorities and providing expert leadership, we will improve the chances of securing our aim and to respond to changes in our ever diversifying membership and local business base. This new structure will be able to help put the Black Country on to the world stage."
