The latest from the Black Country

Black Country Chamber of Commerce preparing for 2015

The Black Country Chamber of Commerce went through its biggest constitutional change in 2014 by replacing the 4 local Boards representing Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton with a Consultative Forum that will direct focus onto members’ areas of concern. In response to approval for the change at the recent AGM, Black Country Chamber of Commerce President, Ninder Johal, said “Faced with increasing collaboration across local authority boundaries and the globalisation of our member's markets, moving to a structure that represents our members on common priorities rather than on a geographical basis is a significant step forward."

Now the Black Country Chamber of Commerce is going one stage further by consolidating all of its employees into one location. In response to the change Chief Executive, Margaret Corneby, said “We are a pan Black Country organisation so we need to operate as a single entity from a single location rather than in silos, leading to a more fluid customer experience for our members. Many service sector business leaders know the value in putting all your people into one place: there is much better shared knowledge and that can only help with delivering success to our members and customers.”

“This is not the end of the change,” added Ninder Johal, “We have set out our aim to double the size of the Black Country economy over the next ten years. This means a step change in the way we do business and we must emulate the focus on leadership and management that we are expecting from our members. We will be looking for a better location from which we can catalyse a transformation of Black Country business.

“The latest survey results show that the Black Country is not enjoying the growth experienced elsewhere in the UK. If we are going to deliver our aim we need to implement changes that will lead to significant improvements in performance on an annual basis. Black Country businesses deserve the best support available and we will be working with partners and stakeholders to ensure that the Chamber takes a lead position. The consolidation of our teams is the next step on our journey.”
