The Platinum Group Celebrate 4 Years as they Share Best Practice

The Platinum GroupThe Black Country Chamber of Commerce Platinum Group was formed in 2012 and has gone from strength to strength. The Group has continually grown each year and is now at 31 members. The Platinum Group is designed for senior leaders within the high value manufacturing, automotive and logistics sector, with the emphasis around learning, networking and influencing.

Gail Arnold, Head of The Platinum Group, said: “I am delighted The Platinum Group has reached its fourth year, I get to work with lots of fantastic Black Country businesses that have a wealth of knowledge and experience and when they share this with their peers it is invaluable. The Group has a real sense of purpose and really brings together the business community in a great way. This year we have lots of exciting meetings planned that will help grow and develop The Platinum Group members, so helping the Black Country prosper.”

Four years on, The Platinum Group met for their first 2016 Director Day (Sharing Best Practice) at Doosan Babcock Ltd, based in Tipton and a member of The Group. The Platinum Group met to hear and discuss the role of sales in the manufacturing sector, where Mark Wormald of Sandler Training worked with The Platinum Group members for the morning and his theme was "Break the Rules and Win More Deals in the Manufacturing Sector".

Around 30 Managing Directors and Sales Directors of The Group listened to and discussed the challenges and opportunities around potential and existing customers, managing an effective pipeline and handling that all important deal closure.

Richard Smith, Managing Director of Rotech Laboratories part of Rubery Owen Holdings Ltd and a member of The Platinum Group, said: “During my forty years plus working life as a metallurgist, I have never practised as a Sales Manager or Sales Director but I am obviously very much aware of the vital role they play in the growth and prosperity of any successful business. With this background, I was keen to experience the training session by Mark Wormold, particularly when Mark explained he started his working career as an engineer in aerospace. Mark explained with some humour his view and probably the view of the majority of the audience, of how the “Salesman” and the “Buyer” and their traditional roles are perceived from the opposite side of the fence and indeed form the population as whole. Mark proposed that we should consider changing the ‘traditional’ approaches to one that is more in tune with developing an interview type approach and becoming a trusted advisor assessing customer needs both personal and work based by asking better and deeper questions.”

Members of The Platinum Group participate in best practice sharing to enable them to develop their business and grow. Black Country Chamber of Commerce aims to double the size of the Black Country economy by 2023 and The Platinum Group are an excellent example of how this is to be achieved. The Black Country is the Industrial Heart of the UK with many high quality and niche businesses that are working together to develop further to be market leaders.
