Quality Standard Approval for Advice and Guidance Services

160524 The Gateway Matrix Standard TeamThe University of Wolverhampton has been recognised for the quality of its information, advice and guidance by achieving Matrix accreditation for its student support services across Telford, Stafford and Wolverhampton.

The Matrix Standard is the unique quality framework for the effective delivery of information, advice and guidance (IAG) on learning and work.  It promotes the delivery of high quality IAG by ensuring organisations regularly review, evaluate and develop their services.

The University was assessed through a series of interviews with managers, service users, staff, volunteers and partner organisations over a period of 12 months.  The assessment framework includes looking at the service provided, reviewing management and policies surrounding the service, assessing the resources available to deliver and monitoring the impact.

Ian Hart, Head of Access and Outreach at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “We focused primarily on how we plan, deliver and monitor the impact of the advice and guidance we offer people. Our objective was to achieve reassurance from an external, objective body that we are working to the highest of standards.

“The information, advice and guidance that we give is crucial in supporting students in their choice of career, learning or work and life goals and The Gateway team did a terrific job in gearing up for the assessment, pulling out all the stops to achieve this prestigious quality standard.”

Monica Belhouche, Senior Careers Consultant in the Office of the Dean of Students, said: “Although the assessment was rigorous it gave the team time to reflect on our working practices and we were able to refine, improve and enhance the service we offer.  As a result of this, we have introduced a new suggestion box initiative which has resulted in 98% good or excellent feedback on the service we provide.”
