Black Country Firm Continues Expansion Drive

A £40m-turnover accountancy firm headquartered in Walsall has struck a deal for its second North East business in three months as part of its plan to expand across the UK.

Baldwins Accountancy Group has snapped up Evolution, which has offices in Newcastle and Wynyard, bringing its national headcount to 550 staff.

The acquisition is part of Baldwins' strategic expansion plans for 2016 and follows a deal earlier this year in which the firm snapped up North East-based Rowlands Accountants.

Evolution was founded in 2010 through a management buyout and has since enjoyed growth and doubled the size of its workforce.

Martin Barber, managing partner at the firm, believes becoming part of the Baldwins Group will allow the firm to bring its "fresh, dynamic approach to an even wider audience".

"This is very much the next chapter in the development of our business," he added. "Our clients will get access to an even broader range of business advisers and we will be able to connect them to even more potential customers and suppliers across the UK.

"Our people will also have a broader range of career options to look forward to.

"We have recently moved into new headquarters in Wynyard and have opened our office in Newcastle. Our growth demonstrates that our approach to advising clients is one they find attractive and that, as entrepreneurs ourselves, we know how to build a successful business."

John Baldwin, director at Baldwins, said: "Rowlands has given us an exceptional start in the North East and now we have the confidence to further invest in the region with Evolution, continuing to build on the excellent brand of both firms.

"By having such a varied geographical spread, we are developing an invaluable network that will enable businesses in and around surrounding areas to connect with other entrepreneurs further afield in the region.

"We are looking to invest further in the area in the coming months which underlines our faith in the strong business community and local economy."

Baldwins has offices across the East and West Midlands, Wales, the South West and the North East.
