Society Members’ Small Change Makes a Big Difference to Local Wolverhampton Charity

Cheque PresentationBuilding society members’ small change has made a big difference to a local women’s and children’s charity, The Haven Wolverhampton. The organisation, which provides both practical and emotional support services to women and children who are affected by domestic abuse and homelessness, has received £880 from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

The Haven is one of the largest independent charities in the UK and one of the largest refuge providers in the country. The funds will buy items such as bed linen, towels, cutlery sets as well as cots and blankets for babies.

Jade Secker, fundraiser at The Haven Wolverhampton, said:  “These items are essential to allowing women and children to feel comfortable and welcome when they arrive at The Haven and are just some of the things we need replaced on a regular basis.

“We’d like to thank the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation for making this very kind donation, meaning we can continue to ensure that women and children feel welcome and comfortable when they stay in our refuges and that they feel confident and have the equipment to rebuild their lives when they move back into the community with their children.”

Amanda Shannon from the Society’s branch in Wolverhampton nominated the charity for the donation.

Amanda, said:  “We were extremely pleased to be able to support the valuable work that The Haven Wolverhampton do in our community.”

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities and good causes around the UK.

In 2015, the Charitable Foundation paid 1,502 donations totalling £392,276 to good causes and charities throughout the UK.
