Hospital Physio Team are on track with new Watt Bike

Hospital Physio Team On Track With New Watt Bike 1Physiotherapy staff at West Midlands Hospital are thrilled after investing in a new Watt bike for the department.

The state-of-the-art indoor exercise machine will help hospital patients to make a speedy recovery and it can also be used by cycling enthusiasts in the wider community.

Elite athletes in Team GB used watt bikes as part of their training regime in the run up to the Olympics and the equipment is highly regarded in the fitness industry.

Patients who have undergone surgery at the hospital will be able to use the bike to aid them with their rehabilitation and non patients can book in to use the bike for assessments and fitness analysis programmes.

The Watt bike replicates the smooth feel of the road and measures performance with precise, intelligent data.

West Midlands Hospital, based in Halesowen, offers a wide range of specialist treatments and surgeries including cosmetic surgery, orthopaedic procedures, general surgery and urological procedures.

It has a specialist physiotherapy unit on site which is run by professionally trained staff.

Patients who have had orthopaedic procedures at the hospital such as knee surgery or have been referred to physiotherapy for rehabilitation will find the bike particularly useful as they build their way back up to fitness.

Members of the physiotherapy team are looking forward to working with the new piece of kit.

Jenny Torpey, Lead Physiotherapist at West Midlands Hospital, said: "The bike will enable us to deliver a highly effective service and a real time analysis of a patient’s strength and fitness levels."

"As well as benefiting patients who need physiotherapy to aid their recovery after surgery at the hospital, the bike should also appeal to athletes who will be able to use it for fitness assessments."

"The level of analysis it provides will be invaluable in improving the fitness and performance of patients and members of the general public."

West Midlands Hospital is one of the leading private hospitals in the West Midlands region and is part of the Ramsay Health Care group of hospitals which has units in the UK, Australia, France and Indonesia.

Physiotherapist Natalie Ainge added: "We are really excited to launch this bike at the hospital.

"It is a high-tech, versatile piece of equipment which is extremely popular with high performance athletes."
