National Express Coach Wins Sword of Honour – Again!

sword of honourBirmingham-based National Express coach has won the UK’s top safety award – for a second year running.

The UK’s largest coach operator has been awarded the British Safety Council’s Sword of Honour Award, having already scooped the accolade last year.

This success comes as National Express coach’s transport group stablemates National Express West Midlands Bus and Essex-based rail operator c2c, were also awarded the Sword of Honour this year.

The British Safety Council describes the Sword as “the pinnacle of achievement in the world of health and safety management”.

Only companies that have been awarded five stars by the BSC in a grueling 13-day audit can even apply for the honour, which recognises commitments to excellent health and safety management standards.

National Express Group Safety Director, Alison Forster, said: “This organisation has a history of strong safety results and our “Driving Out Harm” staff campaign has embedded a safety culture in the Group’s UK and international divisions over the past five years.

“We believe that safety is everyone’s business, so I’m delighted that the hard work done by each and every one of our employees has been publicly recognised like this.”

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “On behalf of the trustees and staff of the British Safety Council, I would like to congratulate National Express and its staff for their huge commitment to keeping their workplaces safe and healthy and minimising risks to the environment from their organisations’ day-to-day activities.

“All of the Sword and Globe winning organisations share a commitment and resolve to achieving the highest standards of health, safety and/or environmental management. We are delighted that they are partners in helping achieve our vision that no one should be injured or made ill at work.”
