National Express Calling on People in Birmingham in Festive Charity Drive

nationalexpressbusNational Express is getting in gear to launch its first-ever Christmas charity coach tour – and it is calling on people in Birmingham to reveal which local causes they would like to see supported.

The UK’s largest coach operator is celebrating its biggest ever Christmas by taking to the roads with a special ‘National Expressmas’ coach in a festive drive which will see it donate thousands of pounds to local causes – and it needs people from Birmingham to nominate.

People in Birmingham are asked to reveal which local causes close to their hearts, they would like to benefit from a Christmas bonus of up to £1,000. Chosen charities will then be paid a special visit by the National Expressmas coach, which will see gifts hand-delivered.

The coach company is particularly keen to hear from people who are able to share stories about how local causes have impacted their lives – or those of their loved ones. Any registered charity with a local base can be nominated and people might, for example, choose causes which have supported them through a tough time – or those which have helped, family members, friends – or four-legged friends.

People simply need to log on to and explain in no more than 500 words why they would like to see their chosen charity receive a donation. And, as a special thank you for entering, National Express is also giving people who nominate the chance to reveal what they themselves would like for Christmas, for a chance to win a festive treat.

The special National Expressmas coach – one of the company’s brand new double deckers - will then take to the nation’s roads in the first week of December, delivering festive cheer across the UK.

Managing Director Tom Stables said: “With more coaches running then ever before we’re all set for our biggest Christmas yet and are looking forward to helping tens of thousands of people across the UK, including in Birmingham, reunite with friends and families for the holiday season. Christmas is a time for giving, and to say thank you, we want to give back to local causes – and people – across the country. We’re really excited to get our National Expressmas coach on the road and meeting people in towns and cities along the way”.

The National Expressmas charity coach tour comes after the company revealed it is on the road to deliver a record Christmas – with coaches to new destinations and duplicated services totalling tens of thousands of extra seats over the Christmas period.

Sixty thousand extra coach seats are being added (Monday, December 19 – Monday, January 2).  On Christmas Day itself National Express is offering direct coaches from a total of 76 stops in 64 different towns, cities and airports in England, Scotland and Wales.

News of the most comprehensive ever Christmas coach network will doubtless be welcomed as an early gift for those festive travellers concerned by the annual rail shutdown and the major works scheduled to take place on many parts of the rail network.

National Express runs services from the Digbeth Coach Station in Birmingham, including on Christmas Day.
