Member of the Week, Futura Design, Ready to Save Lives After First Aid Training

Futura staff get hands on with first aid trainingBlack Country Chamber of Commerce is celebrating Futura Design as Member of the Week after 12 members of staff recently took part in an extensive first aid training course at their premises in Oldbury, highlighting the business’ commitment to upskilling their workforce.

Led by Geraint Tilliot of Lifeline First Aid Training, the Futura team learnt a wide range of first aid skills during the course. After grasping the basics of CPR, the team spent time practicing their technique on the state-of-the-art first aid manikins, which were provided by Lifeline. Despite being an intensive and eye-opening experience, team members described the course as being “very informative and hands on”, learning not just how to administer CPR, but also what the emergency procedure does to the heart and the effects it has on the body.

In addition, the extensive course also covered what to do if someone is choking, how to treat burns and how to put people correctly into the recovery position amongst other important first aid information. As well as training staff members with this life-saving skillset, Futura have a Lifepack defibrillator on-site, which was purchased earlier this year, and is beneficial to both those working in-house and other businesses operating within the vicinity.

Founded in 1987, Futura Design offer bespoke design, technical recruitment and prototyping to the automotive sector, with clients including Bentley, Jaguar Land Rover and McLaren. Furthermore, the business has received a number of accolades in recent years, including being named the Business Masters’ Manufacturer of the Year for 2016, and also being presented with the Manufacturer of the Year Award at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Awards 2015.

Moving forwards in 2017, Futura have recently secured new clients in Italy, thereby increasing their export capacity and diversifying into new markets outside of the UK. To complement this success, they have also invested in cutting edge 3D printing technology, in order to develop flexible and affordable manufacturing options.

Mark Abel, Chief Executive at Futura, commented: "This training is an essential life skill and we believe it's really important that Futura staff members have those essential skills. Accidents and emergencies are a fact of life and we hope to make a difference in the community, should any arise."
