Denise and Sara Join Forces to Expand The HR Dept Across the Black Country

Denise Waite and Sara Pearce of The HR DeptTwo HR experts have joined forces to expand a business providing affordable director-level support to SMEs across the Black Country.

Three-and-a-half years ago Denise Waite set up The HR Dept Wolverhampton and now, alongside new business partner Sara Pearce, The HR Dept Sandwell and Halesowen is up and running, too.

The two businesswomen met through a mutual contact after Ms Waite informed a breakfast networking group that she was looking to expand her operation.

She said: “The opportunity to take on The HR Dept Sandwell and Halesowen came up and, having established and grown The HR Dept Wolverhampton really successfully over the past three-and-a-half years, it was something I didn’t want to miss out on.

“One of my contacts put me in touch with Sara. Apart from the fact that she had the ideal qualifications and experience, we quickly discovered how much we have in common and how suitable we were as business partners.

“We have the same work ethic and approach things in exactly the same way. We had synergy from our first conversation and there wasn’t anything she said that I didn’t agree with.

“I’m delighted that she has decided to join me at The HR Dept and I’m really looking forward to seeing how we develop the business together.”

Ms Pearce has more than 15 years’ experience working in senior HR roles, in sectors including professional services, PR, music, manufacturing, electrical and rail.

She said: “I’ve grown up in and around my family’s electrical engineering business and I understand that every business is different. That’s what really appealed about working with The HR Dept, as it has such diversity of clients. The key to success is getting to know each individual business offering bespoke solutions that deliver the best results for business owners.

“I’m excited about this opportunity to work with Denise and happy to be involved. There’s a great potential to provide exceptional, cost-effective HR advice and support to SMEs in the Black Country.”

Ms Waite set up The HR Dept Wolverhampton after leaving the world of corporate HR with 40 years of experience behind her working across the globe.

Based in Tettenhall, her company now provides HR advice and support for some 70 companies in the Wolverhampton area with a client base consisting of SMEs from microbusinesses to larger firms with 150 employees, across a variety of sectors.

She said: “Working with SMEs is very different from corporates but in a very positive way. Clients want my advice, they ask for it and appreciate it, which is a welcome difference!

“The business has developed really nicely since I set it up in 2013 and it’s made me realise that I wanted to grow my business even further and bring a business partner in as well.

“Sara’s based in the Jewellery Quarter, so she’s ideally placed to grow the new territory and with me being in Tettenhall we can be responsive wherever our clients are, across the Black Country.”

The HR Dept is a national company which has a network of 63 licensees working in 85 territories around the UK and Ireland, providing the full breadth of HR services to SMEs in their areas.

Managing director Gemma Tumelty said: “It’s great news for small businesses across the Black Country that they have two practitioners with many decades of combined experience offering their advice and support. It's been fantastic to see what Denise has already achieved and I can't wait to see what more she and Sara can do together.”
