The Platinum Group Discuss “Leadership Influence Through Emotional Intelligence”

The Platinum Group Discuss LeadershipThe Platinum Group is a network of committed leaders from strategically important businesses within the manufacturing, automotive, logistics, freight and transport sectors in the Black Country. The Group meet regularly to share knowledge and work collaboratively to move their businesses forward.

CEO’s and MD’s of The Platinum Group meet quarterly to work with a qualified leadership coach to strengthen their relationships within The Peer Group and to discuss current business performance and challenges, whilst reflecting on their current strategy and enhancing their leadership skills.

A new leadership coach, Jerry Bernstein, has been appointed to the Group for 2017. Jerry was recommended by Platinum member, ASSA ABLOY, where he runs leadership programmes to develop their senior leadership team. At his first Peer Group meeting the discussion was around “Leadership influence through emotional intelligence”.

Emotional and social intelligence differentiate the great leaders from the average ones. Emotional intelligence also takes practice. Leaders who understand how to apply emotional intelligence are likely to have greater influence and create higher performing teams, ultimately leading to stronger financial performance and growth.

David Leggett, Director of voestalpine Metsec plc, the UK’s largest specialist cold roll-forming company, said: “It is invaluable to have this opportunity to reflect on our leadership skills and current issues with like-minded business leaders, in a supportive and trusted setting. The competitive environment is constantly evolving and it is important that we are developing our own skills and teams to ensure that we are able to continue to compete and grow.”

Gail Arnold, Head of The Platinum Group, said: “The Platinum Group is designed for senior business leaders within the high value manufacturing, automotive and logistics sector, with the emphasis on developing leadership skills, sharing best practice and working with like-minded people. 2017 marks the 5th Anniversary of The Group and we continue to evolve The Group, and the interactions, to ensure that they deliver the best outcomes for our members.”

Leadership and development are cornerstones of the work that the Chamber is doing to grow the local economy. Peer-to-peer learning and best practice sharing play an important role in driving this economic progress across the region.
