German Visitor Gets Lowdown on College

A human resources manager from Germany is getting a taste of working in the UK during a week-long placement at City of Wolverhampton College.

Nadine Hommel, aged 31, works in HR development for Landratsamt Bodenseekreis, a large public sector employer in the city of Friedrichshafen in southern Germany, and has a particular interest in training and development.

She is spending the week finding out how the college’s HR department operates and looking at the similarities and differences between working practices in the two countries, as well as discovering more about British culture.

Barry Picken, chair of governors at the college, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nadine to the college and hope that she will return home with new ideas and share our best practice with her colleagues back in Germany.”

The visit has been arranged as part of the Midlands District Rotary Clubs’ vocational study exchange programme.
