Hernia Patient is Over the Moon with West Midlands Hospital Surgery

Alan Is Over The Moon With Hernia SurgeryHernia patient Alan Smith is over the moon after undergoing surgery at West Midlands Hospital.

The 39-year-old has benefited from inguinal hernia surgery thanks to the skills of hernia specialist Mr Ajantha Jayatunga.

Alan visited his GP after experiencing some discomfort in his abdomen and was sent for a scan, but he didn’t realise there was a problem at first.

When his inguinal hernia was revealed, he booked an appointment to meet Mr Jayatunga at West Midlands Hospital for an initial consultation before going ahead with surgery.

Alan has first-hand experience of the hospital after visiting for treatment a decade ago and received an excellent service then, so he had no hesitation in returning.

Inguinal hernias appear as a lump in the groin and they can cause pain, although some are painless.

Even the smallest ones that fail to be spotted can cause pain and could lead to complications which require emergency surgery.

Alan, of Kinver, South Staffs, said: “I wasn’t even aware there was a problem but Mr Jayatunga explained to me that if I didn’t have the operation I could end up in an emergency situation at some point so I knew the importance of going ahead with it.

“I had an excellent experience at West Midlands Hospital 10 years ago and I wanted to have the surgery done with a hernia expert. I had every confidence in Mr Jayatunga who is highly skilled in all types of hernia surgery.”

West Midlands Hospital has a team of specialists that deliver a range of modern hernia surgeries including inguinal hernias, femoral hernias, umbilical hernias, epigastric and ventral hernias, incisional hernias and sports hernias.

Alan said: “I’ve never had an operation before but I felt completely reassured from the moment I stepped into the hospital.

“The service was absolutely first class and the hospital feels traditional but very homely with modern facilities at the same time.

“I was only in the hospital for half a day so I was pleased to have the hernia surgery done as a day case procedure. I’m pleased I’ve had the operation and it has put my mind at rest now.”

Surgery for an inguinal hernia can be performed under local or general anaesthetic and can be performed as open surgery or via the keyhole (laparoscopic) technique.

West Midlands Hospital is one of the leading private hospitals in the Midlands region and provides a range of surgeries and treatments as well as hernia surgery including cosmetic surgery including spinal surgery, orthopaedic surgeries and eye treatments.

Patients can pay privately for their hospital surgery which reduces waiting times considerably.

Alan added: “All the staff and the consultant went above and beyond their role and I couldn’t have asked for more.

“This latest visit has completely reinforced my opinion of West Midlands Hospital – it’s fantastic. If you need hernia surgery, this is definitely the place to go.”
