Black Country Chamber Awards Remember Tony Andrews: A Leading Business Adviser

Two of the categories in the Black Country Chamber of CTony Andrewsommerce 2017 Awards are in memory of someone who was widely regarded as one of the region’s leading Business Advisers. Tony Andrews was held in high esteem by peers and by hundreds of individuals who were helped by him to set up their own businesses. It was with great sadness that we heard that Tony had passed away earlier this year following a short battle with cancer.

From an early age, Tony had a passion for helping others - training as a life guard, being a regular blood donor, and achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

Tony, who only last year was still helping people start to run their own business as an adviser for SWEDA (Skills, Work, and Enterprise Development Agency), was previously employed by Business Link West Midlands, and the Black Country Chamber. Indeed, a number of current Chamber member businesses were established as a result of the enthusiasm, knowledge and confidence that Tony was able to impart.

A prolific networker and innovator, Tony always found a way through to helping someone develop a business idea. His friendly and professional approach ensured people felt both at ease and energised. No ask was too much for Tony, always going the extra mile to support clients and colleagues alike.

Whilst helping people realise their ambitions was a driving force for Tony, nothing was more important than family. A proud and loved grandfather, father of three sons and two daughters, and husband to Catherine for 35 years. It was by chance that Tony and Catherine first met, through a mutual friend’s wedding even though they had only lived a mile apart through their childhood.

So, this year we recognise an individual or group of individuals who have successfully applied the advice and guidance from a pre start workshop to establish their business; and an adviser who has excelled in the eyes of those they have sought to support.
