Dwain McDonald Voted ‘Tech Pioneer of the Year 2017' at the Retail Week Tech Awards

Tech Award Retail Week Dwain McDonaldDwain McDonald, CEO of the UK's favourite parcel delivery company DPD, has been named Tech Pioneer of the Year 2017, at the Retail Week Tech Awards in London.

The awards celebrate the greatest innovations in retail technology and the individuals and teams who are leading the charge. They focus on how the cleverest digital ideas are enhancing customer experience and turning disruption into an opportunity.

The ceremony was hosted by leading technology journalist and broadcaster, Georgie Barrat, who presents the UK's best loved consumer tech program, The Gadget Show. The award categories were judged by a prestigious panel of tech experts, drawn from across the retail industry.

Other big winners on the night included Tesco, Sainsbury's Argos,, Missguided and Naked Wines.

The Tech Pioneer of the Year award is recognition for Dwain McDonald's tech leadership over a number of years. DPD is widely acknowledged as a market leader in innovation, and Dwain has personally been involved in the creation and development of a series of award winning ‘firsts' including; Predict - DPD's unique one hour delivery window service, the Your DPD app, which is used by close to two million people in the UK, and Precise, which allows customers to select their own delivery slot.

DPD's CEO Dwain McDonald commented: "It was a real honour to accept this award. I often joke that we aren't really a courier firm, we're a tech company that happens to deliver parcels! But that is the way you have to think in today's market place, and our customers see the difference it makes every single day and with every single delivery. Digitally, the biggest and best retailers absolutely wow their customers these days, they are so innovative and so creative. To deliver for them we have to be one step ahead, all the time. So for the retail sector to recognise us as a tech leader means the world to me."

The award follows an incredible few years in which DPD has been honoured with a Queen's Award for Innovation, the Which? Special Award, ranked in The Sunday Times ‘Best Big Companies to Work For' and topped MoneySavingExpert's customer satisfaction poll for parcel delivery companies four years running.
