Bus Driver Dave is Master of the Black Country

NXWM Pensnett bus driver Dave GerrardA National Express West Midlands bus driver has been recognised as one of the 100 most talented and skilled Masters from the Black Country.

Dave Gerrard, who works at the bus operator’s Pensnett depot in Dudley, was chosen out of thousands of nominations for mastering bus driving and fundraising.

Dave, from Stourbridge, has been a bus driver for over 50 years. He has raised over £22,000 in the last 15 years for local and national causes such as Russell’s Hall Hospital, the Royal British Legion, Birmingham Dogs Home and Macmillan Nurses.

When he found out about this accolade, driver Dave said: “Just like one of my famous sponsored no-joke months - I’m simply speechless.”

100 Masters is a new campaign produced by Creative Black Country. It aims to identify contemporary skilled people from the region and help inspire future talent. The public were asked to have their say and nominate someone they know who is brilliant at what they do.

Just like the Black Country itself, the list is made up of a wide variety of people and includes Olympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds OBE and Turner Prize-winning artist Gillian Wearing OBE.
