School Children Hospital Visit to Celebrate NHS 70

Fib Park 6Primary school children are celebrating NHS 70, with the help of The Heart and Lung Centre at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

Children from Fibbersley Park Academy, based in Willenhall, interviewed New Cross Hospital staff, created a display which will go up during the week of the NHS’s 70th birthday in July and enjoyed sessions on a range of topics.

The Year 5 class also interviewed hospital staff about their roles and local historian Roy Stallard. Mr Stallard was a former heart patient at New Cross Hospital and has been lending a hand to create the display of historical artefacts to mark NHS 70.

Chris Scordis, team leader at Cardiac Rehab, said: “The children excelled themselves in their engagement with the activities.

“They loved interviewing members of the team and having the opportunity to visit the SIM ward at New Cross. They also had a hand washing session with one of the nurses and produced a booklet which they will sell to raise funds for the Coronary Aftercare Support Group charity.

“It was great for them to find out about all the different job roles in the NHS and spend time out of the classroom visiting the hospital.”
