Silent Soldier Silhouettes Stand in Kingswinford After Commemorative Event

Silent Soldier EventIn June, The Royal British Legion dedicated three Silent Soldiers to the local people of Kingswinford and Wall Heath to mark Armed Forces Day. Three metal soldier silhouettes can be found located across Townsend Place in Kingswinford, with one displayed outside Dudley Building Society. The Society now houses the Book of Remembrance, a gift from Kenchington Ltd for the local community to sign and remember those who fought for our country.

The packed commemorative service featured a touching message from Mayor of Dudley, Alan Taylor who paid tribute to the men and women who rebuilt our country after the First World War. Local Conservative MP, Mike Wood also attended and was among many who enjoyed a moving choir performance from schools in the local area. Students from Blanford Mere, Church of the Ascension and Dawley Brook Primary Schools sang a selection of wartime classics with Summerhill School Choir. Steven Bibby, Head of Music at Summerhill School described the children as “a credit to their schools”.

Another partner of the event, Philip Arch at Wilkes Tranter Accountants said, “We are really proud to have a Silent Soldier on display at our office and have received positive feedback from both clients and staff”.

Supervisor at Dudley Building Society’s Kingswinford branch, Lisa Evans commented “We were pleased to support such a special event. It was great to see so many local people coming together in the sunshine to remember their loved ones”.

Dudley Building Society welcomes all members of the community to pop into their Kingswinford branch to sign the Book of Remembrance.
