MP Emma Joins Golden Celebration for Wednesfield Firm

A family-run company celebrated a golden anniversary with a birthday party at the double.

Edward Howell Galvanizers has been operating from its site in Wednesfield for 50 years – and staff organised two days of celebrations to mark the milestone in style.

MP Emma Reynolds was among more than 50 guests at a special gathering at the company’s Watery Lane plant on Friday.

And a family fun day, featuring a variety of attractions, was held at the site the following day.

Ms Reynolds, who has represented Wolverhampton North East since 2010, met Wedge Group executives, including general manager Kevin Addis, and key customers before taking part in a guided tour of the factory.

She said: “The plant has been operating in my constituency for 50 years, so it was great to help them celebrate such an historic milestone.

“I first came here when I was standing for Parliament almost a decade ago, so I’m well aware of the growth of the business and its history of success.

“Not only is it a family firm, but there are also generations of families who have worked here over the years. It is an institution in Wednesfield, which is a great thing.

“It’s a fantastic success story for this area and, perhaps in another 10 or 20 years, we can get together again to celebrate another anniversary.”

Edward Howell, now part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, was established in Birmingham, but moved to Watery Lane in 1968.

General Manager Kevin Addiss said: “We’re delighted to reach our 50th anniversary at the site and the celebrations were a great success.

“Emma has been here before and knows all about us, but it was great that she was able to spare time to join the event and learn more about our operation and our plans for the future.”

“The fun day on Saturday was great too with lots of people, including staff, family members, friends and visitors, on site.”
