The British Chambers of Commerce reacts to the Shadow Chancellor's interview.
Shevaun Haviland, Director General of the BCC, said:
“It was encouraging to hear the Shadow Chancellor recognising the importance of finding a solution to the large number of inactive workers in our communities, especially the long-term sick.
“Actions he took while in Government, such as the introduction of full expensing, help on childcare and support for our planning fund, have previously demonstrated his understanding of key issues.
“We look forward to working more closely in the coming months on the mechanics of his broader vision, including support for green innovation, skills and the digital revolution.
“We would also like to hear more about how he would boost the UK’s international trading prospects. Growing the UK’s exports in both goods and services is critical to securing our economic future.”
Black Country Chamber of Commerce Policy & Impact Officer, Gemma Edwards said:
“It was good to hear yesterday the Shadow Chancellor acknowledging the importance of reducing the number of inactive workers in the economy, partly demonstrated by his help on childcare while he was in Government. But in the coming months it will be good to hear more detail on how he would support businesses, particularly in the area of growing exports.”
