Dozens of Black Country businesses have received expert global trade advice to help navigate Donald Trump’s tariffs. Midlands-based Independent Freight Solutions (IFS) hosted nearly 100 businesses from across the West Midlands as part of a free online briefing designed to bring businesses up to speed on trade with the USA.
Global customs expert David Hooper, director of IFS, shared key insights into the evolving trade landscape with the US with attendees, which included several business leaders from Black Country firms.
The exclusive briefing, open to IFS clients and select partners including Black Country Chamber of Commerce members, also covered the critical impacts of recent US trade tariff changes on UK businesses and explained important context including the different ways the US and UK measure trade.
The session was attended by representatives from the manufacturing, construction and automotive industries, including a number from the black country, all of whom could be exposed to the 25 per cent Section 232 tariffs on steel, aluminium, and auto imports.
David said: “When you look at the types of industries which are receiving the worst impacts of the tariffs, a huge number of Black Country firms are having to stay as flexible and informed as possible on a constantly changing situation. “The topic has obviously become an enormous topic with businesses needing to stay up to date with at times daily changes.
“We felt it was important to explain where we are at currently, how we have got here, and the most important things businesses need to be aware of away from the headlines, and it was great to see so many business leaders attend our briefing.”
