Black Country Chamber of Commerce announces Beacon as charity of the year

The Black Country Chamber of Commerce has announced Beacon Centre for the Blind as its charity of the year for 2025/26.
Beacon Centre for the Blind supports people living with a range of sight conditions across the Black Country, offering a wide range of support services and activities to empower and connect people living with sight loss.
Each year the Chamber supports a charity based in the Black Country to raise funds, promote its work and celebrate its impact in the local community.
Celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, Beacon has a diverse range of fundraising events planned to include Beacon’s Colour Run, Santa Run and Bright for Sight Day and a glittering Anniversary Ball.
The charity hopes to work with the Chamber at its members to create accessible, inclusive workplaces for those with sight loss and provide training and support to improve diversity and accessibility across the region.
The Chamber will be fundraising for the charity at events throughout the next 12 months, including at its Business Awards.
Black Country Chamber of Commerce CEO Sarah Moorhouse said: “Beacon Centre for the Blind is a fantastic charity that supports a huge number of blind and partially sighted individuals through its fundraising and outreach work.
“Through our fundraising we hope to raise awareness of the good cause and help extend its services in the community.
“We look forward to working with the Beacon team and our member organisations to make a difference to people in need across our region.”
Beacon Centre for the Blind chief executive Lisa Cowley said: “As we celebrate our 150th anniversary, we are delighted to have been chosen as the Black Country Chamber’s charity of the year.
“We have been supporting people living with sight loss since 1875. From teaching blind people to read and write through braille in the 1800s to training in modern manufacturing techniques today, we help people in the Black Country and Staffordshire to live well with sight loss.
“This partnership not only provides a platform to educate and raise awareness across the Black Country community but also allows us to collaborate and celebrate with local businesses. By working together, we can create a more inclusive region and ensure we continue supporting the sight loss community for another 150 years.”
The Black Country Chamber of Commerce is the leading business support agency for firms based within or doing business across Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall.
It runs various member groups to support its mission to promote and meet the needs of business and industry across the Black Country and to help create the best community in which to live, work and do business.
