Cabbies to the Rescue!

Seasonal corporate goodwill overflowed in Sandwell to help make a new ‘Christmas Day Together’ initiative a resounding success.

SCVO, Sandwell’s charity sector support organisation, responded to the ever-growing issue of people having to spend Christmas Day alone by organising a lunch-time gathering at the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick. But with a minimal budget, the problem of getting people there and back was severely hampering the planning.

Fortunately, local cab company Express Taxis stepped in and as part of their commitment to ‘giving back’ to the local community, slashed their prices to accommodate all passengers within budget. Their spokesperson said: “Express Taxis in partnership with the Saleem Foundation was honoured to be able to support the team at SCVO with providing taxis to local residents enabling them to have Christmas lunch together.

“The Saleem Foundation is a registered charity currently in its fifth year set up by Shaz Saleem in honour of his late grandad Al-Haj Master Mohammad Saleem who sadly passed away in 2016.

“We work very hard all year round to support and unite the local community.”
