The Beacon Centre for the Blind is marking a historic milestone with a spectacular Beacon of Light Ball, celebrating 150 years of supporting people with sight loss. The event will take place on Friday, 19th September 2025, at Park Hall Hotel, Wolverhampton, and will be hosted by well-known broadcaster Dicky Dodd.

Attendees will also hear an inspiring keynote speech from Darren Harris, former Beacon beneficiary and England’s most-capped blind footballer.

The evening will bring together Beacon’s corporate supporters, partners, and the wider community, offering a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Beacon’s achievements since 1875 and raise vital funds for the future. Guests will enjoy a night of fine dining and entertainment and will have the chance to support Beacon’s work in empowering people living with sight loss.

Lisa Cowley, Chief Executive of the Beacon Centre, said: "For 150 years, Beacon has been at the heart of supporting people with sight loss, and our Beacon of Light Ball is a fantastic way to celebrate this milestone. “We are incredibly excited to welcome Dicky Dodd and Darren Harris to what promises to be a memorable evening. We encourage businesses and individuals to join us for this special occasion, as we reflect on our legacy and look forward to the future of sight loss support."

Presenter Dicky Dodd added: "It's an honour and privilege to be asked to host the Beacon of Light Ball, celebrating 150 years of amazing work that's been done by Beacon in supporting thousands of people with sight loss. I'm hoping that the people and businesses of the West Midlands will support this evening, at the Park Hall Hotel, so that Beacon can continue into the next 150 years. It's going to be a memorable event".
