Childcare Voucher Scheme Deadline is Approaching

26 Feb 2018

Published in: The Chamber Patron Group

The deadline for new employees to sign-up to the Childcare Voucher scheme is 5th April 2018! To qualify employees must have had at least 1 salary sacrifice deduction prior to this date.

Employers need to ensure that employees are aware of the payroll cut-off dates so that they don't miss out. In addition, if employees that have taken a break from childcare vouchers and are approaching 12 months they need to restart their vouchers in order to be considered as an existing user.

The Government has confirmed that the new Tax Free Childcare Scheme has been made available to all under 9 years olds from the 15th of January 2018, and all other eligible families will have access to the scheme from the 14th of February 2018. The increase from 15 hours to 30 hours free childcare was launched in September 2017 for eligible 3 & 4 year olds, and parents who signed up in September 2017 have been asked to re-confirm their eligibility as part of a quarterly check.

Following a petition that was signed by over 116,000 people, there was a Parliamentary discussion on Monday 15th of January. A number of MP's debated keeping Childcare Vouchers open parallel to the Tax Free Childcare Scheme, or at the very least extend the 5th April deadline until they have a fully functioning scheme. We continue to remain close to the Government, any further details on the petition will be communicated once we know more. As the 5th April 2018 is fast approaching employers are being advised to cascade this message to their employers. Flexible Benefits would encourage employers to share this message so that employees can make an informed decision on which scheme is better suited to their circumstances.
