Government announces support for Nurseries

The Government has announced business rates holidays for Nurseries.

What is it?

Nurseries in England do not have to pay business rates for the 2020-21 tax year.

Which businesses are eligible?

Properties that will benefit from the relief will be those occupied by providers on Ofstedā€™s Early Years Register and are wholly or mainly used for the provision of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

How is the support accessed?

1. There is no action for you as the business manager/business owner. Local authorities will apply the business rates holiday to your bills. For more information please check the guidance on gov.uk.

2. To estimate the business rate charge Nurseries will no longer have to pay this year,  businesses are encouraged to check the business rates calculator.

3. Nurseries can check who their local authority is, here.

When can a business access the support?

This will apply to business rates bills for the 2020-21 tax year. However, local authorities may have to reissue a bill. They will do this as soon as possible.

The Chamber will continue to monitor these developments and provide in-depth analysis as we learn more. Businesses can contact the Chamber's support line on 01902 912 322
