Crosby’s CEO, Paul Cadman, received more than he bargained for when he attended the annual Worshipful Company of Butchers and The Institute of Meat awards on Thursday 26th February at Butchers’ Hall London, with 2 of our Butchery trainers, Tara and Matthew.
The Institute of Meat awards is a ceremony to celebrate everything Butchery. It brings together, apprentices who have just joined the industry, and those who have years of experience under their belt. It’s a great way to bring everyone together, and celebrate the value of Butchery Apprenticeships for the industry.
The Institute of Meat is now in it’s 80th year, and there were plenty of awards to go round!
There were three categories: Apprentice Winners Newly Awarded Master Butcher’s Fellowship’s Paul was recognised for his long-lasting support for apprenticeships, and in particular, Butchery.
He was the former Chair of the Trailblazer group, a Board Member of IfATE for 5 years and Chair of IfATE’s Quality Assurance Team. Therefore, Paul was awarded with a Fellowship from the Institute of Meat. This isn’t something you can apply for, it is a recognition for significant contributions made to the industry, and is one of the highest levels of professional recognition in the British Meat Industry.
Although Paul isn’t a Butcher by trade, he likes to remind us that he worked for a couple of year’s as a Saturday boy at H.E. Jones Butcher whilst doing his A-Levels in the early 1980’s!
Alongside Paul, Paul Miles, Booker’s Fresh Food Development Controller, was also awarded with a Fellowship from the Institute of Meat. Not only that, Booker Wholesale won the Best Company Training Scheme award, due to the relentless pursuit of excellence in Fresh Food and Butchery throughout their apprenticeship programme, and their now 26 Master Butchers.
The number of Master Butchers is a title only they can hold. It’s a great achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication. We are delighted to have nominated Booker for this award, and wanted to say Congratulations to all of the winners.
