A defibrillator is only life-saving when people know where it is, trust it, and feel confident using it.
Defibrillators save lives, but only when they are easy to find, properly maintained, and supported by confident people.
Across workplaces, schools, sports clubs and communities, many defibrillators are installed with good intentions, yet hidden in poor locations, fitted with expired pads, or supported by little staff awareness. In the UK, anyone is legally allowed to use a defibrillator, and modern devices guide users safely through each step.
However, confidence, CPR skills and calm decision-making still come from training and regular refreshers. A defibrillator should never exist as a standalone solution; it must be part of a wider system of responsibility, maintenance and preparedness.
Defibrillators don’t save lives on their own. People do. And when people are prepared, supported and confident, outcomes change.
