Ren Shin Kan Martial Arts partners with West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver vital safety skills.
Ren Shin Kan, a premier local martial arts club based in Halesowen, has announced the launch of a brand-new series of free self-defence classes. Backed by funding and support from the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Simon Foster, the initiative is designed specifically to empower local citizens, with a primary focus on women’s safety and confidence.
The free workshops aim to teach practical, effective situational awareness and physical self-defence techniques that require no prior martial arts experience. Amid growing national conversation surrounding women's safety, this community-focused initiative offers a safe, supportive, and accessible space for participants to build vital life skills.
Empowering the Community The classes will focus on realistic scenarios, boundary setting, de-escalation, and simple yet powerful physical interventions designed to neutralize threats quickly.
Chief Instructor at Ren Shin Kan, Philip Smith: "Our goal isn’t just to teach people how to strike or break a hold; it’s about giving them the confidence, awareness, and mindset to avoid danger in the first place. Thanks to the support from the Police and Crime Commissioner, we can remove the financial barrier completely and ensure these life-saving skills are accessible to any woman who wants to feel safer and more empowered on our streets."
Supported by the Police and Crime Commissioner The initiative aligns directly with the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner’s ongoing commitment to tackling violence against women and girls, fostering safer communities, and supporting grassroots crime prevention programs.
