Rooted in the grit of the Black Country, this piece calls for bold leadership, cultural truth, and purpose-led business. It challenges outdated systems and invites real, values-driven change—beyond optics, towards legacy built on integrity, creativity, and community.
The Black Country holds legacy in its bones, steel, sweat, and a spirit that doesn’t fold under pressure. But we’re not here to romanticise history. We’re here to rewrite it. As a woman who’s worked on both the frontline and the boardroom, I know what it means to build under pressure, to lead when the odds are stacked, and to push through systems that weren’t built with people like me in mind. I’ve worked in sectors from mental health to marketing, from retail to regional strategy, but the thread through it all? Purpose. And people.
That’s why I founded Shades of Reality, not just as a business, but as a movement. We’re a consultancy and content house that brings clarity, creativity, and cultural intelligence to the table. From leadership training to digital storytelling, we work with organisations that are ready to move differently. No box-ticking. No fluff. Just brave, honest transformation. Because let’s be real, if your business culture isn’t rooted in truth, inclusion, and long-term vision, you’re building on sand.
Leading With Integrity, Not Just Influence
We hear a lot about “leadership” these days, but leadership without accountability is performance. And performance without impact is noise.
In the Black Country, we have the raw materials for something powerful: diversity, resilience, and a deep-rooted entrepreneurial fire. But that energy needs structure. It needs values. It needs spaces where creativity and culture are not just tolerated, they’re respected, invested in, and built into strategy. That’s where businesses like mine come in. Through Shades of Reality, I’m helping organisations reframe leadership, wellbeing, and communication from the inside out. Through Thawadar Boutique, I’m bringing cultural storytelling and conscious commerce to a global stage, all from the roots of the West Midlands.
We are not just building businesses. We are shaping legacy.
The Black Country Is More Than Industry, It’s Identity
Thawadar is a luxury fashion brand inspired by Middle Eastern aesthetics, ancestral energy, and high-frequency design. But make no mistake, it was birthed in the Black Country. Every stitch carries resistance. Every design is a challenge to conformist narratives about what “professional” or “luxury” is supposed to look like. We don’t need to water ourselves down to fit in. We need to build systems that reflect the fullness of who we are, as leaders, as creatives, as communities. And that applies to every Chamber member reading this: whether you run a tech firm, a football club, a local café, or a corporate institution, your values are your edge.
Don’t just sell, serve Don’t just compete, contribute.
Final Word: Legacy Isn’t Given. It’s built. This isn’t about optics. It’s about ownership. We don’t need another initiative that skims the surface. We need deep, sustained shifts in how we lead, trade, communicate and connect. That starts with uncomfortable truths and bold conversations and it’s why I’m here, to connect with other business leaders in the Black Country who are ready to do things differently. Not for the PR but for the people. If that’s you, let’s talk.
