Helping Families Through Difficult Times at Goscote Hospice

Walsh Funerals and Memorials is proud to support families at Goscote Hospice through a dedicated refreshments hub, helping provide comfort and convenience during difficult times.
Families spending time with loved ones receiving end-of-life care at Goscote Hospice in Walsall are benefiting from a dedicated refreshments hub funded and supported by Walsh Funerals and Memorials.
After working closely with the hospice team last year, we recognised the challenges families can face while staying with relatives in the inpatient palliative care unit, particularly with limited nearby shops and restricted kitchen access.
To help make things a little easier during an incredibly difficult time, we funded the refreshments hub and continue to provide monthly deliveries of long-lasting snacks and essentials including crisps, biscuits, chocolate snacks, soup, croissants, flapjacks and hot drinks.
The refreshments are available in the relatives’ room, giving families easy access to food and drink whenever they need it, without having to leave the hospice. The space has also become somewhere families can support one another and share conversations during emotional moments.
Rainer Derry from Walsh Funerals and Memorials said: “We’re incredibly proud to support the team at Goscote Hospice and the families they care for. It may seem like a small gesture, but when people are spending long hours beside loved ones, having access to refreshments without added stress can make a real difference. Hearing how much the hub has helped families and staff means a great deal to us.”
The initiative has also seen families themselves contribute by replacing items they’ve used, helping to create a strong sense of community and support within the hospice.
Deb Jones, Senior Sister at Goscote Hospice, said the hub has made a meaningful difference for relatives, helping remove one less worry at an already difficult time.
We’re honoured to continue supporting the hospice and the incredible care its staff provide to families across the community.
