How will you make a difference this year?

Well here we are, in the shiny new year of 2025. But how will this one be different? How will our business move on to better things just because we hung up a new calendar?

Well, it could be that we turn our attention to what’s going on out there, instead of entirely focusing on what’s happening in here. Many companies have come alive to the fact that getting involved in their local community ultimately reaps big benefits for both their workforce and their bank balance. Whether it’s organising fundraising activities during a working day or sponsoring the local Under 11s with new kit, acts of corporate social responsibility strengthen professional relationships, build workforce teams and forge lucrative new links for businesses. Across the Black Country there are literally thousands of charitable organisations needing support. Of course, none of them will turn down donations and offers to raise funds for them. But most need even more than that, and your and your staff could be helping. All charities, for example, are ultimately led by volunteer Trustees – people from all walks of life who sit on the charity’s Board and share their experience to steer the charity in the right direction. Trustees attend around four meetings a year plus the occasional ‘dip in’ – something easily do-able by most professionals, particularly if the company offers Employer Supported Volunteering as part of their contract. Getting to know your employees and organising fundraising for a local charity close to their heart is another way to massively improve relationships and boost business. Here at SCVO in Sandwell we offer support to more than 1000 charitable organisations, as do our colleagues in the other three Black Country boroughs. We’re always happy to chat about ways to build bridges between the sectors, and make the Black Country a better place to work and play. To start the conversation, contact kim@scvo.info
