A Unique Opportunity for Local Businesses to Make a Difference
Are you a local business looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community As Black Country Chamber of Commerce's Charity of the Year, YMCA are calling on Members to join them in supporting the future workforce of the Black Country, raising vital funds to support young people moving on from their housing projects to belong, contribute and thrive in their community.
YMCA has hosted a Sleep Easy event in the Black Country every year for the past 15 years; during COVID the event was even held virtually, with volunteers spending a night in their garden or under their kitchen table, all to raise funds and awareness of youth homelessness in our area. On Friday 7th March, a small village of cardboard boxes made up of committed, selfless individuals will appear on Merry Hill Car Park for one night in the cold to raise awareness of youth homelessness.
Youth homelessness is a pressing issue that affects countless young people across the UK, and the Black Country is no exception. Sleep Easy is your chance to take action by raising vital funds to support YMCA’s housing and support services, which help young people rebuild their lives and achieve brighter futures. All money raised from the event goes towards YMCA's Moving Forward Fund, which supports residents leaving YMCA to buy essentials to help them move on positively. This has included white goods for new homes, a new sofa, a suit for a job interview and a bike for a young person to commute to work. These may seem like small things, but to many of our residents, they can be the make or break of a successful next step.
By joining YMCA, you’ll not only make a significant impact in your local area but also create lasting benefits for your organisation through CSR. Your fundraising efforts will have a direct impact on vulnerable young people, who could in the future be a part of your workforce.
Sleep Easy is an opportunity to showcase your company’s commitment to social responsibility. Many local businesses have sponsored Sleep Easy in the past and have benefitted from additional PR and brand awareness through their connection with YMCA. Customers and clients increasingly value businesses that care about their communities and take tangible steps to create positive change. If you are unable to take part in the event this year, why not consider a corporate donation to the cause?
Sleep Easy isn’t just about raising money—it’s about raising awareness and creating lasting change. By taking part, your business can inspire others in the community to take action against homelessness and engage your employees by providing them with an opportunity to contribute to a cause that matters. While it’s just one night for you, it’s a powerful reminder of the realities faced by those experiencing homelessness.
