Osborn Communications has completed the last of its four acts of kindness drive by mentoring an intern at Wolverhampton-based charity Beacon Centre for the Blind.
To mark the agency’s fourth anniversary, the team at Osborn Communications have used their skills and expertise to help four good causes over the last 12 months including Beacon Centre for the Blind, Black Country Chamber of Commerce's charity of the year.
The charity supports visually impaired people across the West Midlands by providing care, employment and wellbeing services, as well as opportunities to live fuller, more independent lives.
Osborn’s team have been mentoring Beacon Centre’s communications intern Muhammed Ravat, widely known as Mo, in recent months by delivering tailored workshops helping him to build solid skills in content, marketing, media and relations communications.
Mo, an alumnus of the Royal National College for the Blind, began to lose his sight at the age of 16, but has developed his passion for the creative industries.
He joined Beacon Centre for the Blind as part of the Get Set Progress Internship Programme, run by the Thomas Pockligton Trust.
Now, at the age of 26, Mo has been offered a permanent position at the Beacon Centre on the back of completing his paid internship and is working to raise awareness of the impact of early sight loss as well as supporting those living with the challenges it brings.
Osborn’s founder, Chris Leggett, said: “Mo is a remarkable individual, bright, insightful and very articulate, and it has been a privilege to work with him as we believe the way he has overcome adversity with an infectiously positive attitude makes him something of a hero.
True inspiration
“His contributions have helped raise the charity’s profile and amplify its vital work across the Black Country. Mo is truly an inspiration and we know he’ll make a wonderful addition to Beacon’s team.”
Mo added: “Interning at Beacon has allowed me to share my perspective and tell stories that matter. I’ve grown in confidence and skills, and I’m grateful to Osborn for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to work with their team and build my skills.”
Beacon Centre for the Blind head of impact and external income Helen Brown added: “Beacon is delighted to have benefited from not one but two of Osborn Communications’ acts of kindness.
“They have provided Mo and the charity as a whole with some practical as we celebrate our 150th anniversary.”
The mentorship programme is the fourth of Osborn’s Four Acts of Kindness campaign which was created to mark its fourth anniversary and give back to the local community.
Osborn’s campaign saw the YMCA Black Country Group receive charitable support with a donation to their 180 Degree Fund, launched as part of the national YMCA’s 180th anniversary, while a donation was made to Midlands Air Ambulance at a charity ball in October organised by Osborn client, Lord Combustion Services.
