Aundray Gow, who landed a job after a gruelling four-year search, has made two appearances on the BBC's national Newsnight TV programme in the last few months, thanks to Starting Point Recruitment continually telling its story.
SPR's continual drumbeat of storytelling by its PR agency Walk Through Walls
On December 17, 2025, the BBC’s national Newsnight contacted us asking if we had anyone who had landed a job after a long search and was willing to appear on that evening’s TV programme.
Producers had seen news releases issued on behalf of Starting Point Recruitment CSPR) by its PR agency, Walk Through Walls.
That has put us on the radar. So, when the Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced its monthly labour force survey results detailing bleak jobs market figures, they got in touch.
SPR colleagues came back with a rapid two-word reply: Aundray Gow.
Four years of job-hunting before eventual success
Aundray, 22, from Willenhall, had spent four years job hunting, sending out more than 100 fruitless applications, before contacting SPR for help.
A few weeks later, he landed a job at Foot Asylum in Walsall.
Having never done any media before, Aundray appeared on Newsnight that night - a short, pre-recorded conversation detailing the hard-fought road to employment.
Invited back - this time to go live in the studio
Newsnight loved him. So much so that on February 17th, 2026, after another ONS release of dismal jobs market data, a producer asked if Aundray would come back on - this time live in the studio for a live conversation on the sofa with host Victoria Derbyshire.
Aundray was transported down to London in a BBC-funded taxi and put up overnight at a hotel near the studios.
Giving others hope
His BBC Newsnight performance was brilliant. He said he was nervous, but he didn’t show it.
Aundray appeared live on the nation’s TV screens calm and relaxed, telling his story in a clear and engaging way.
The power of storytelling
Another learning from this is: Always tell your story. If you don’t, no one else will.
Walk Through Walls' PR team sources, writes, and lands stories that tell SPR’s story - and Newsnight is just one of the media outlets that have noticed.
Simon Evans, PR consultant for Walk Through Walls, said: “We scan the news agenda for our client SPR, diairising the monthly ONS data share, so we can issue positive stories that piggyback on it.
“On these occasions, SPR was able to tell a positive story that countered a wider negative one, achieving strong brand awareness and giving other jobseekers hope that they too could be like Aundray, finally getting a job despite a tough market.”
