After a period of preparation, we finally found ourselves setting up our sustainable sculptures to showcase the high standard of artwork and craftsmanship to the delegates of the British Embassy’s coronation celebration in Dubai, UAE.

Wow- it has been an absolute whirlwind of a month! If you managed to read my last blog, you would have seen that I was building towards an amazing event, following an exciting invitation to a sustainable sculpture exhibition. After a period of preparation, we finally found ourselves setting up our sustainable sculptures to showcase the high standard of artwork and craftsmanship to the delegates of the British Embassy’s coronation celebration in Dubai, UAE.

SETTING UP THE SUSTAINABLE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION, THE HEAT WAS ON!

Over our first days in Dubai, we perfected the presentation of the sculptures, finding the perfect way to position each of the animals. In forty degrees Celsius, the team worked solidly to ensure that each creature was ready to share the individual personality captured by the sculpture of used car parts. We were placed next to some very well-known brands, such as Adamas Cars, Morgan, Lotus and Grenadier. It felt wonderful to be exhibiting within the same space and even better to hear the encouraging comments from those around us- even before the event had begun! It was during this time that I was invited to speak to students about sculpture, manufacturing and design for a well-known university in UAE, so keep an eye on my blog and I will share my upcoming plans when I can!

MAKING CONNECTIONS FOR A NEW SUSTAINABLE ART BUSINESS

Working on this sustainable sculpture exhibition has been such a commitment and I have been rewarded by the creative processes and physical construction of each of the pieces. However, building a business is also important to share my passion and allow the word to spread on finding solutions for sustainability. The automotive industry has to make changes quickly to make a difference and solutions for used car parts where old can become new and used can become innovative- I am ready to share my ideas and try to make a difference. Once the event began, so did the conversations. It was truly amazing. Talking with people who were ready to hear about sustainable art, sharing my story and my heart-felt commitment to sustainable sculpture. I can’t list the names of the people who I may be working with, but I am excited to say that the list is long and there are extremely exciting projects being planned for the near future and I am ready to get started! I am so excited to share with you in future blogs so watch this space as there is definitely more to come!

SHOWCASING AT MULTIPLE EVENTS AND BUILDING SUSTAINABLE ART CONNECTIONS

Our visit wasn’t just for the King’s Coronation party at the British Embassy in Dubai. Our sustainable sculptures were exhibited at the Adamas showroom, and we visited many other showrooms where the feedback was stunning, and more connections have been established. A key highlight was meeting with Ramesh Shukla, royal photographer & artist. It was a pleasure to speak with creatives and business owners, exploring potential projects and exciting potential for the future. Building on the awareness of sustainable art and sculpture with people in the automotive industry and those who work within other business networks too. Needless to say, after being personally invited to the Royal Photographer’s gallery, I extended my stay in Dubai to respond to the meeting requests, building a network of business owners with a shared passion for art and sustainable solutions.

PAUSING FOR A MOMENT TO TAKE IT ALL IN

Looking back at the whirlwind of my visit to Dubai, I find myself thinking back to the quieter moments as we perfected the way each sculpture was positioned. I was so proud to look at each of them. After finding a project I am passionate about, the work it has taken to reach this point has been fast and furious but seeing the owls sit so quietly among the buzz of the events, I was pleased to see their power, despite their relatively small size. They held their own and they captured the attention of people with their quiet present, drawing people in to examine the quality of the build. The larger pieces spoke loudly to people as they enjoyed the event, drawing them in with their size and unique design, before being met with more intrigue as people learned of the meaning behind the process and the materials. I have been so pleased with the response to my sustainable art sculptures, I felt that everyone I met really appreciated the beauty in the design and the quality of the sculptures as art lovers. More than this, the way people understood the importance of repurposing the materials made me feel truly hopeful. So much in the media is about climate change and the terrible warnings that it was wonderful to be surrounded by people, face to face, sharing a commitment to making change. These sculptures have found a new life, bringing joy through their beauty and presence and telling their story to an international audience. A story where an artist from the Midlands took what was once seen as waste and turned it into a message of sustainability. I am so excited for all the plans, grateful for the opportunities I have experienced throughout my time in Dubai and ready to get started on the next project!
