BCIC West Midlands are on a GVA crusade to try and drive up productivity in the area.
BCIC West Midlands is openly campaigning for West Midlands manufacturing companies to share their total gross value added.
It's a simple number:
- Number of employees.
- Total sales revenue.
- Total non-capital expenses.
We've created a short survey for BCIC West Midlands' members and interested companies to share these numbers with us so that, together, manufacturers can strengthen the case for support for solving key challenges all businesses face, including lowering electricity costs; improving access to new technologies; supporting development of workplace skills; and reinforcing the ways that all our manufacturing industry actively contribute to future growth, economic resilience, and intelligent regeneration.
Share your GVA number now. It's so easy.
Why share your GVA?
For the West Midlands in particular, manufacturing is a core part of our regional identity and economic base. Local GVA data for the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) area shows manufacturing continues to generate billions in output annually, measured through balanced GVA approaches that combine both production and income methods for greater accuracy. While national and regional GVA statistics exist, they don’t provide the ground-truth perspective needed to demonstrate the real conditions facing manufacturers—especially small and medium-sized enterprises, which are often under-represented in policy discussions.
What we will do with your information
BCIC West Midlands can help create a more accurate, bottom-up view of manufacturing value in the region. This complements official datasets, such as WMCA's small-area GVA estimates, which provide detailed but highly aggregated data from national accounts. Direct input from manufacturers allows us to:
1. Strengthen the case for regional investment
By quantifying the real value manufacturers generate, BCIC can more effectively lobby for lower energy costs, targeted innovation programmes, and better long-term infrastructure investment.
2. Demonstrate the importance of manufacturing to UK economic resilience
National data shows that the West Midlands’ manufacturing GVA is a cornerstone of regional output. Your company’s participation helps illustrate stability, growth potential, and the importance of maintaining strong industrial capabilities.
3. Make sure industry voices shape future skills and technology policy
Clear, up-to-date GVA insights help education providers, colleges, universities, and training organisations understand where skills gaps exist — and where investment is most urgently needed.
4. Showcase manufacturing’s contribution to intelligent regeneration
Local authorities increasingly rely on GVA-based evidence when planning regeneration projects. Providing company-level data helps ensure that manufacturers are not left out of future development strategies. The board and team at BCIC West Midlands look forward to your contribution to this valuable survey. Please feel free to share your information today: 2026 Gross Value Added Survey. If you need any assistance to complete the GVA survey or want more information about BCIC West Midlands, please do not hesitate to schedule time with us when it is convenient for you.
