A Wolverhampton-based charity has launched a virtual bereavement hub aimed at people from the South Asian community.

Staff at Compton Care have responded to increased pressures due to Covid19 on people from the South Asian community when accessing bereavement support. The hub is run by trained volunteers and offers people the chance to express their feelings with others who have also experienced loss and grief. It comes after the charity launched a series of online hubs in June aimed at people who need a safe haven where they can continue to access support to come to terms with their loss throughout the pandemic from the comfort of their own homes. Maz Kull, Community Engagement Coordinator, said: “Following the successful introduction of our virtual bereavement information hubs in June this year, we have seen an increasing number of people from the South Asian community who are seeking help and support with bereavement and loneliness. “In response to this, we have created a new online bereavement information hub to support people from this community in Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire, giving them the opportunity to meet others who have been affected and share their experiences of loss and grief.” Prior to the pandemic, the charity hosted regular monthly bereavement hubs at various venues across Wolverhampton, South Staffordshire and Dudley. The initial idea for creating the hubs was identified due to the limited resources available to people facing a bereavement across the region. The hubs usually take place in a café-style format to allow people to relax and feel comfortable enough to talk about their experiences, with sessions facilitated by a minimum of two fully-trained volunteers. Mrs Kull added: “Since the development of our bereavement information hubs in Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire in 2017, we have seen an increasing number of people and organisations approach us to help address the gaps in support for communities affected by loss and grief. “We are working hard to create safe and welcoming volunteer led bereavement information hubs to support diverse communities throughout the region and plug those gaps.” To find out more about Compton’s virtual bereavement information hubs and to get involved call 01902 774570 or visit
