West Midlands Mayor to open Manufacturing Showcase on eve of Commonwealth Games

Andy Street CBE, Mayor of the West Midlands, will open a Manufacturing Showcase hosted by national audit, tax, advisory and risk firm Crowe at its Midlands office in Oldbury.

The event will support British manufacturers based in the Midlands. A staunch supporter of the sector, the former John Lewis boss will be throwing the spotlight on the various forms of government assistance available to manufacturers to innovate, reshore and reach out to a global marketplace.

Over 30 companies and organisations are attending the event on Wednesday 27 July, from 08:00 until 12:00.

Johnathan Dudley, Head of Manufacturing and Midlands managing partner at Crowe, said: “The Showcase, in conjunction with the Birmingham Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce, will be of huge interest to UK businesses looking to engage with existing exporters to share best practice and obtain guidance and support both from those businesses and government agencies too.

“We are delighted that Andy Street, a very influential voice both in the Midlands and in Whitehall, recognises the need to hammer home the case for supporting manufacturing at a time when all eyes are on Birmingham and the focus is on the Commonwealth Games.”

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “I’m very pleased to have been invited to open the British Manufacturing Showcase at Black Country House.

“We all know about our region’s proud manufacturing heritage but this event is a moment to recognise the strengths of the sector today and into the future.

“A key part of my mayoral mission is to help West Midlands manufacturers to thrive which, in turn, will boost our ability to provide our local residents with high quality, well paid jobs. Events like this help us to fulfil that important mission so I look forward to playing my part and many thanks to Crowe for hosting this event.”

The event also has the backing of the Department of International Trade (DiT) and UK Export Finance (UKEF). Officials will be on hand to highlight the way the government can help manufacturers push through to the global marketplace.

At the event Crowe will also be launching its new Export Funding Flowchart, which provides valuable guidance on how to plot a course to global success.

Dudley added: “This is a golden opportunity to remind everyone of the innovation and expertise that UK manufacturing offers the world.

The exporting door is ajar and we can help manufacturers push through and succeed on the global stage.”

Companies wishing to take part or to meet some of the finest manufacturers based in the Midlands, can apply via British Manufacturing Showcase event form, or email nathan.sanghera@crowe.co.uk or call 0121 543 1900.
