When local members work together and it just makes sense
One of the best things about being part of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce is that you do not just collect business cards. You actually get to know people.
Over time, you learn how they work, what matters to them, and whether you would trust them with your own reputation. That is usually the point where collaboration stops being a vague idea and becomes something more practical.
That is exactly what has happened with Walsh Funeral Directors.
Walsh’s is one of those businesses that most people know of, even if they have not needed them personally. They are well established, respected locally, and they work in a space where doing things properly matters. When you are supporting families through some of the hardest days of their lives, consistency, care and professionalism are not optional. They are the whole job.
So when the opportunity came up for me to start supporting Walsh’s with their HR, it felt like a natural next step. Not a hard sell. Not a big announcement. Just two local Chamber members working together in a way that supports the business and protects the team.
HR can be one of those things that sits in the background until it suddenly cannot. A tricky absence. A change in legislation. A people issue that needs handling fairly. A manager who is great at their job but has not had to navigate a difficult conversation before. Most businesses do not need HR every minute of every day, but when they do need it, they need it done properly and with confidence.
That is where I come in.
My role is to support Walsh’s with the practical side of HR, so they have clear processes, the right paperwork, and the right guidance when situations crop up. It is about making sure the business is protected, yes, but it is also about supporting the people in the business. Because in a service like theirs, the team is everything.
The bit I like most about this kind of partnership is that it is grounded in real trust. We have built a relationship through the Chamber, through local connections, and through seeing each other show up consistently. That is what makes collaborations work long term. There is no performance. Just two businesses doing what they do best and making it easier for the other to do the same.
If you are a Chamber member and you have been thinking about outsourcing something important but you are not sure where to start, my advice is simple. Look around the room at the people you already trust. The best partnerships are often closer than you think.
