How can I stand out from the crowd with video marketing? Wonder no more - find out in this STM Blog

Why use video marketing and how can you stand out?

In this day and age with the YouTubes, TikToks, Snapchats, Facestagrams and Twitbooks, there are endless platforms to share your organisations content and bring your video marketing to life. Content takes many different shapes and forms, each with its own pros and cons. However, statistics from the last few years show that video content has unequivocally become the most popular and consumed form of content in the digital world.

In fact, in 2020, 96% of consumers increased their online video consumption, and 9 out of 10 viewers said that they wanted to see more videos from brands and businesses. At the beginning of 2022, it was predicted that the average person will spend 100 minutes per day watching online videos.

In this STM Blog, we’ll look at why you should be using video marketing, the problems it can solve and how you can stand out from the crowd.

Tell your story

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” - Dr Seuss

It’s probably easy to think something along the lines of ‘if everyone uses video marketing, how can I stand out?’.

It’s a good question, but the most unique person in the world is you and no one shares your story.

There is no easy way to stand out and there’s no cheat code. It’s all about consistency, caring about the small details in your content and telling good stories. People can relate and become invested in narratives. Be you! No one else can.

How often have you been on a company website and read through seemingly endless paragraphs with a couple of grainy pictures in there? Can you honestly say yours is much different?

Why worry about typos when you can make something like this? -

Take creative direction

Your video content can look exactly how you want it to look.

With the Google algorithms, the digital world constantly changing and ideas going out of fashion, it feels like websites have the same shelf life as ice cream kept in the rotisserie chicken area of a supermarket.

Regular refreshes are needed and to meet the best practices of search engine algorithms, video is essential. Video can be the driver of refreshes and your content can be based around the headline video aesthetic.

Drive people to the website with shorter video content on your social media channels! The possibilities are endless.

For example:

Show off your USPs

It’s all well and good talking about what makes you or your organisation unique, but there’s nothing better than showing people.

If your headquarters are a sight to behold; show people!

What’s better? ‘We r in a nice place x’ on a buried page on your website?

Or this?

Example in Action - Products

For example, do you sell consumer products?

Time and time again you bump into bland old product pages with a few specs and maybe a grainy image in the product description area.

If you’ve got a new range of products, do a video showing them in action!

If it’s just one, why not make something short yourself? We’ll ask again - which is better?

This?

Or this?

Accessible to everyone

Generally speaking, everyone, all over the world, has access to a video or video platforms.

Visual information is the most shareable form of content.

Use it to expand your market!

Engage with your audience through awesome visuals, show off your products or mission, explain processes, show off your locations or your apprentice programme.

Share your message with the world. A wee bit American, but check this out!

Great ROI

A common stumbling block for video is that people may think that it’s expensive. Well, as with anything, it’s all relative.

However, the return on investment with video goes a lot deeper than just financial gain, although that is a pretty nice one.

  • 83% of video marketers say video helps them with lead generation.
  • 87% of video marketers say video has increased traffic to their website.
  • 80% of video marketers say video has directly helped increase sales.

Great for SEO

You might write the best SEO copy on planet earth.

Your site may load in the blink of an eye, be very healthy and your blog posts might be an absolute delight.

Sounds like the perfect SEO storm doesn’t it?

WELL YOU’RE WRONG AND HERE’S SOME STATS TO PROVE IT.

According to Forrester, video results are 50x more likely to organically rank on Google than text based results.

Blog posts with video are 53x more likely to end up on the first page of Google than blog posts without.

Videos, on average, add two minutes to the time a user will spend on your site.

So often in the world, one percentiles make the difference between good and great.

Think of the swimmer shaving their arms and legs, the weightlifter and the smelling salts, the footballer and the hair wax.

The same principle applies to business and videos can take you to the next level in so many ways.

Easy to distribute, easy to digest

Every social media platform is video compatible now. Even if you weren’t to upload video content to each of the platforms individually, it could be as simple as sharing a YouTube link.

The etymology of the term ‘going viral’ is fairly easy to work out.

Think about how a virus spreads and apply the same principle to your video content.

Make an impression on one person and it could go all over the world.

We aren’t suggesting that you should try and make something like the Crazy Frog or Gangnam Style, but if even 20 people smack bang in the middle of your target audience see the video; the possibilities are endless.

The future

Video marketing is the future.

In fact, Christopher Tompkins of The Go! Agency predicts that video marketing will soon become a necessity.

Think about how video content dominates the digital world at the moment and how many trends you see across social media. If you stand still, you’re going backwards.

Adapt to the modern world and include a video marketing strategy.

Even if you start with filming content on your phone and really basic edits, it’s important to start somewhere.
