The ROC Ignite in Manchester was founded by Debra Green in 2004
Redeeming Our Communities (ROC) was launched in the North West in September 2004. Debra Green had been coordinating multi-agency meetings across the Greater Manchester region for a number of years (https://roc.uk.com/history/)
On the 22nd November 2023, Debra organised a ROC Conversation in Wolverhampton, with Fae and other community. based organisations. Many non-profit organisations join and share their health and well-being activities on this platform to connect as well as our community, and this is where I come in.
While I was about to leave Wolverhampton Social Service in my role as an Experienced Social Worker after 28 years of grafting, I had a vision to bring as many community organisations together. This seemed like a challenging task; however, I believed and visualised this happening.
In October 2023, I saw this advert where local community groups had planned to come together as a response to the city crisis following the COVID-19 lockdown. There was no hesitation, so I booked my spot and was added to a list of attendees, which continued to develop, called the ROCWOLVES.
This event was ELECTRIC and I was amazed to see and hear what local like-minded people were impacting our communities, and acknowledged that working together as One Wolverhampton was the way forward and the solution to many of our City's problems.
Following this event, the ROCWOLVES slowly grew, and a few months later, I joined the Admin team and committed my time to growing our group under the umbrella of Ark Training Social Care Consultancy and Wolverhampton Wellbeing Hub CIC..
Our ROCWOLVES group has now reached 255 community workers. During this growth, there were several members who lived or worked on the border of Wolverhampton and were running Groups in Walsall, which led me to respond the the rising needs and launch the ROCWalsall Group, which is gradually growing and has reached 49 members today.
Debra, Fae and I met with other leaders at the beginning of 2025 and discussed enlarging our capacity of the ROC initiative to the West Midlands, which was launched on 08/10/2025 at an Event in Lye, Stourbridge. Debra had set up a ROC Lye Action Group on 29/09/2023, which has now become more active following this event. This again was another productive connection with inspiring conversations, and it was here that ROCWestMidlands was birthed.
