You know I love my holidays

You know I love my holidays In fact, I’m on holiday right now as we speak. Every year my family and I take a couple of weeks out in the summer. We usually go to Lanzarote and spend a chilled out fortnight soaking up some sun, drinking some beers and enjoying ourselves. I’m no fool. I know that the kids won’t always want to come on holiday with me. And yes, even though they are 22,20 and 18 years old I still call them kids… It won’t be too long before they’ve flown the nest and start taking their holidays with their friends...or their own kids! So despite the travel challenges this year, as the lockdowns are lifting I was keen to still get this quality time with my clan. But there was a problem. Our flights to Lanzarote got cancelled with less than 24 hours to go! So instead of sunning myself in the canaries - we’ve holed up in a beautiful resort in Crete… it’s a hard life eh? We were lucky, we managed to bag ourselves another set of flights and still get away. As you know, I don’t just travel with my family - travelling the world, meeting our partners, connecting with clients and discovering new forwarders is a big part of what I do for Millennium. I like to really know the people we work with and really understand our customers, their needs and the freight industry so I can give my clients that very best service. A few weeks ago I wrote about a holiday opportunity I’d come across - the opportunity to go on a journey on a container ship! (If you missed it you can read about it here). https://www.millenniumcargo.com/how-did-i-miss-this/ I was so excited - I’ve always wanted to experience the journey a container ship and its crew goes through. It’s not a cheap trip and the shortest crossing takes a full 12-14 days - or more like 22-35 for the most interesting destinations! But the great news is that I’ve been given the go ahead by the big boss at home (yes, I mean my wife Debi). There’s not many a woman would listen to me ramble on about ships and freight and customs and Aston Villa for 25 plus years… and still be as supportive as my Wife Debi. When you’re in business, having the support of those around you can have a huge impact. Business can be hard. You’re going to face challenges and adversity and ups and downs on an almost daily basis (and that’s in pre-covid times!). You need to surround yourself with people who get it. People who you can come home to after a long day and say “Hey! I want to go on a cargo ship for 20 plus days to help me understand the industry better” and they say “Great! How can I help?” If you don’t get that support from your family then create it in your friends. Mix with like-minded people who will help you, encourage you and give you support you need to stay on track when the seas get rough. So what about you? Do you have the right support network in your life? Keep Safe everyone.........
