Meet Your MP

We regularly organise roundtables between local MPs and businesses within their constituency. Our members tell us that they have found these sessions to be very useful to them in connecting with their local representative, knowing who they can ask for help where needed, and also connecting with other local businesses.

Why businesses, from start ups to long established firms, should meet their local MP

Meeting your local MP is a great strategic move for businesses at any stage of growth. MPs are elected to represent local people and organisations, and engaging with them can open doors, solve problems, and strengthen your influence in the community.

  1. MPs represent and support local communities and stakeholders
MPs exist to champion the interests of people and organisations in their constituency. They can raise issues, offer advice, and support initiatives that affect businesses at any stage.

  2. It raises awareness of your business and its impact
Meeting your MP helps them understand your contribution to the local economy, whether that is job creation, innovation, community value, or sector specific impact. The more they understand your role, the more seriously your priorities will be taken in future discussions.

  3. It builds a long term relationship with someone influential
Strong relationships with MPs can benefit businesses of all sizes. MPs can influence policy, funding opportunities, and local priorities. Establishing this relationship early helps start ups grow; maintaining it helps established firms strengthen their strategic position.

  4. They can help resolve challenges or remove barriers
Whether you’re dealing with regulatory hurdles, planning concerns, infrastructure issues, or broader sector challenges, MPs can raise matters on your behalf or guide you to the right channels for support.

  5. It connects you with wider networks and opportunities
MPs work closely with councils, business groups, and community organisations. Through them, you can access new partnerships, events, campaigns, and visibility — all of which support business growth and community presence.

  6. It demonstrates leadership and local commitment
Meeting with or hosting your MP shows that your business is engaged, responsible, and invested in the area’s future. This matters just as much for ambitious start ups as it does for established employers with deep local roots.

In short...

Meeting your MP isn’t just a courtesy, it’s a strategic opportunity.

It helps your business become part of the local conversation, builds valuable relationships, strengthens your influence, and ensures your voice is heard on the decisions that shape your sector and community.
