Midlands Professionals Forge Links in Germany

A youth leader from City of Wolverhampton College is embarking on a once in a lifetime trip as she jets off to Germany on an exchange programme.

Jo Lewis, age 26, a Prince's Trust Team Leader at City of Wolverhampton College, is one of three people selected by the North West Midlands District Rotary Club to take part in their Vocational Study Exchange 2016, which starts on August 27.

She will be joining Genesis Rowley, a blacksmith from Stoke, and Charlotte Brogan, a design manager from Sutton Coldfield, to find out how their professions are practised abroad, alongside exchange team leader Gary Sharpe.

During the two week programme the group will discover more about German culture and observe their own vocations as practiced abroad by living with a host family.

Jo, who currently helps support young people into work, education and training, said: “I’d like to thank the Wednesfield Rotary Club for sponsoring me and to Rotary itself for providing such an exciting opportunity. I’m looking forward to embracing new ideas and developing my work ethic.”

Chair of Governors at the college Barry Picken said: “The programme is a great opportunity for young people in the early years of their professional lives to sample the culture of another country while enabling personal development.

“Participants will be able to share best practice in their fields and return home with fresh, new ideas and a new raft of networks. I look forward to hearing from Jo as she shares her experiences on her return.”

Stan Jukes, Chair of the Vocational Committee, added: “We are very pleased this year to be making our exchange with Germany, and look forward to welcoming the inbound team when they arrive in England in the Spring.”
