UK Automotive Sector Set to Continue to Grow in the Black Country Steel & Alloy Processing Limited Invest in New Manufacturing Facility

Black Country LEP and Sandwell MBC continue to support the development of the Black Country as the centre of the UK’s automotive sector with the announcement of conditional contracts in place between Midlands commercial developer, Trebor Developments LLP and Steel & Alloy Processing Limited to bring forward a major industrial development in Oldbury.

Black Country LEP has supported via the Growth Deal investing £54k in site investigations for the site in Oldbury.

The proposed development of the 11.6 acre site will consist of a 300,000 sq ft manufacturing facility, which will significantly expand the manufacturing capacity of Steel & Alloy Processing Limited. Subject to approval of the reserved matters application, the development proposal is expected to commence on site in spring of 2017 and be operational by 2018, creating new jobs in the area.

Tom Westley, Black Country LEP lead for the Enterprise Zone said:  “The Black Country continues to secure its position as the centre for the UK automotive sector. Investment and development such as this is fantastic news for the area supporting the Black Country LEPs vision of becoming the High Value Manufacturing City of the UK adding over £1 billion to the economy, bring forward over 150 hectares of land for advanced manufacturing and create over 25,000 jobs.”

Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Steve Eling, said: “It is heartening to see this significant level of investment coming into Oldbury at this time, the new jobs being created by Steel & Alloy are very welcome and is further demonstration of Sandwell being at the heart of the manufacturing economy of the West Midlands”.
