The Haven Wolverhampton Hosts a Series of Events to Mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month hosts a month long plan of activities to bring recognition, and to help put an end to the widespread domestic violence and abuse suffered by women, children and men all over the world. 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and an average of 3 women die every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner.

At The Haven Wolverhampton, we have a series of planned activities to bring awareness to the community, and to help prevent and promote safe healthy homes and relationships.

Million Steps: You can take part in our community walk and ‘step out’ domestic abuse by helping us reach our one million steps target taking place on Saturday 8th October in partnership with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Community Hub Open Day: We have an open day event to give professionals the opportunity to visit our Community Hub at our main office on Wednesday 19th October and meet the Specialist Service areas and hear about the support we offer to the women we support.

Training: We will be providing training on ‘Understanding Controlling or Coercive Behaviour’ which will provide an opportunity to gain more of an understanding of Coercive Control on Friday 14th October.

Refuge: Our staff in all of our refuges are there to support women practically and emotionally. They understand the trauma women have experienced and are there to listen. Councillors will be given the opportunity to speak to some of the women and hear first-hand their experiences.
