Spinal Injection Is Step In Right Direction For Mike

Spinal Injection Is Step In Right Direction for MichaelA spinal injection has proved to be a huge step in the right direction for a first time West Midlands Hospital patient.

Mike Dooley notches up around 10,000 steps at day at work and the selective root block injection has helped to ease his back troubles which have been ongoing for months.

The 56-year-old has had previous back surgery which made a difference for a while but when he started experiencing different pains in his lower back he visited his GP to find out more.

Mike, of Oldbury, was referred to West Midlands Hospital spinal consultant Mr Navin Furtado who identified the root of the problem straight away and put him forward for a selective root block injection.

He visited the Halesowen-based private hospital for his injection and was in and out on the same day.

Mike said: “I work for the IT section of a warehouse distribution company in Wolverhampton but I cover a lot of ground during the course of a working day and count my steps.

“The pain in my lower back was getting progressively worse and it was really uncomfortable, particularly when I was at work.

“I had never been to West Midlands Hospital before but I was referred to see Mr Furtado and I had confidence in him straight away.”

Mike feels that the spinal injection has made a big difference to his quality of life and has put an end to the discomfort.

He said: “Mr Furtado explained to me that my spine was pressing on a nerve at the bottom of my back and that was causing me pain and discomfort.

“I’d done a bit of research into what the injection involved and I had every confidence in Mr Furtado to deliver it.

“I attended the hospital and was put under a local anaesthetic for the injection, and then I was discharged the same afternoon.

“I felt a lot better almost instantly following the injection and the pain had eased considerably and I feel a lot better now.

“The surgeon and all the staff I met at the hospital were extremely professional throughout.

“This was the first time I had been to West Midlands but I’m glad I was referred to the hospital and I would definitely recommend it to other patients.”

West Midlands Hospital offers a full range of spine and neck services ranging from physiotherapy and spinal injections through to complex spinal surgery.

Patients can pay privately for their treatment which helps to speed up the process due to reduced waiting times.
